English and Technology
How has technology influenced learning English?
For me, the influence of technology in English has been quite important and more in these times of pandemic since since the internet and technology were created, a window to learning has been opened and it has evolved over time as we are living it recently in this pandemic where we cannot attend face-to-face classes but without the help of technology we would have been stuck without learning anything of this quite important language.
The covd pandemic has affected the way teachers and students interact. Teaching change from a face-to-face education as it was a few years ago, to a digital and online media way. This is mostly in part with the growth of technology during this pandemic, which has allowed teachers around the world to continue with their activities. For many students learning a new language like english can be difficult to learn, but with the use of technology this was facilitated by the use of different applications and games that exist today, such as the following examples:
1. Lirica
Lirica is a fun application if you are one of those who needs to improve your English, but everything bores you or you just need more action.
This application has a free version that lets you follow games by listening to popular songs. In these games you have to say what you are hearing or translate it, and everything happens too fast so you have to pay close attention.
2. Busuu
This application has an interface more similar to that of an online class and includes different well-structured learning sections. Each lesson allows you to know the vocabulary and you must go through small tests that keep you attentive, at the end of each lesson there is a test that allows you to ascend the level.
Something interesting is that you can help other users who speak Spanish to improve their progress and people who know English can help you, in the community section.
3. Lingbe
It basically allows you to create a profile, and put your English into practice by making calls to strangers from anywhere in the world. The idea is simple, if you receive calls from people who want to practice Spanish, you earn lingos, a virtual currency that you then use to pay for your calls to those who can speak English, so that you can practice.
You can also earn lingos by watching ads, or taking other actions. On the negative side, we have that there is no language guide or resources to improve.
4. Duolingo
It allows you to select your level, you must complete sentences, it allows you to speak to practice your pronunciation and it also does writing tests, and every time you do it well you can pass the level and it even has competitions within the app.
5. British Council
This British organization has an interesting mobile application, in which you can find many exercises and entertaining games. So you will learn English while having fun. It is a perfect app for any age, so it has different options, for example, it is also useful for those who want to apply English to the business world. Whether you are a student or teacher, you can benefit from this app.
In my opinion technology has become a fundamental tool for everyone, especially for us students and our teachers. With this technology offers us not only courses but also apps with games that we can put into practice to learn and thus continue to increase our learning of how to speak English and not just stay with the learning of a language.
